A city, up close

Stratford-upon-Avon is best known as the birthplace of William Shakespeare, and his birthplace on Henley Street, along with Anne Hathaway's Cottage and Holy Trinity Church, where he's buried, are all within walking distance of the town centre. The Royal Shakespeare Theatre sits on the banks of the River Avon, and the half-timbered buildings along the town's main streets date largely from Shakespeare's own lifetime.
