A city, up close

London is England's capital and by far its largest city, spanning both banks of the Thames. Nearly two thousand years of continuous history sit within walking distance of each other — Roman city walls, the Tower of London, Christopher Wren's St Paul's Cathedral, Victorian railway termini, and the modern skyline around the Shard. It's less a single place to walk than dozens of very different ones stitched together: the markets of Borough and Camden, the green expanses of Hyde Park and Regent's Park, and the riverside path stretching from Greenwich to Richmond.
